Dance Psychology

Dancing is more than just going through the moves

What makes a good dancer a great dancer is not just a sense of rhythm, it is a complex mixture of body language, verbal and non verbal cues, conscious and unconscious beliefs and 'dance rules' which affect how you interact with your dance partner.

I work with you to improve how you dance by looking at your unique combination of experiences, behaviours, habits, rules, beliefs, thoughts, feelings... I do this through workshops and individual sessions. These allow you the opportunity to explore how you approach dancing and find ways to become a more confident and popular dance partner.

Comments by participants at workshop events:

"I felt so much more confident and had my best dancing night ever after the workshop"

"It was great to meet other dancers and to share experiences"

"Great to hear that I'm not the only one, everyone has the same fears and insecurities"

"I'm surprised that women and men like a lot of the same things"

"I really liked the fact that so many of us want to improve our connection"

"I realised that I can communicate so much to my partner that's not through words"

"I was amazed by how much impact not smiling and giving eye contact has"

"I can see the same pattern in dancing as in all my life"

"Your class at Storm was a catalyst for change, provocative and also amusing, since then it has led me to question many assumptions regarding my own character and how I relate to others - not just within dancing but also those I know socially and with whom I work. The result was that I started to look at how and why I interacted with others. What worked... and in some cases why it didn't. Dance nights have changed. It's much more about preparation beforehand, managing expectations and learning to listen to myself rather than others. It's an ongoing process, but I think many of those around me would agree that it's been invaluable to have an opportunity to evaluate what was and in many cases wasn't working. With the dividend that I'm happier and generally more relaxed on a day to day basis."   CH Graphic Designer
